“This is what the Lord says …
I listened carefully, but you did not speak the truth. Not one of you has been sorry for your wickedness; not one of you has asked, ‘What have I done wrong?’ Each of you keep on going your own way, like a horse rushing into battle.”
THAT’S Jeremiah 8:6
The other day I watched the morning news for a few minutes and then as I left my house to GET into the car to run a few errands, I heard the LORD SAY: ““lying spirit”.”
it doesn’t take a genius to discern WHAT GOD WAS SAYING. I said “Yes LORD That explains it!” That explains why, like the rest of the world, we have been scratching our heads for the past several years and thinking things like: “this makes no sense.” “that’s crazy” “this is nuts” “something doesn’t add up” “these are blatant lies” “the world has gone mad” “PEOPLE can’t really believe that”…. “what happened to 2 + 2” EQUALS 4? — you know what I’m talking about because YOU live on the same planet, see the same news and social media posts I do.
When I heard the words, ““lying spirit”” — it made perfect sense. So much of what we hear and see doesn’t make sense because it’s not true — it’s a lie being cultivated by a ““lying spirit”” that whispers lies which are repeated by deceived and willing participants OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Listen to what the Lord says in Isaiah 5:20-24….“How terrible it will be for people judgement is coming to those who call good things bad and bad things good, who make darkness light and light darkness, who think sour is sweet and sweet is bitter.
How terrible it will be for people judgement is coming to those who think they are wise in their own eyes and believe they are clever.
How terrible it will be for people judgement is coming to those who are famous at drinking wine and are champions at mixing drinks. They take money as a bribe to set the guilty free and acquit the wicked and deny justice to the innocent.
Therefore….They will be destroyed”
A ““lying spirit”” and its relevance today is a topic and worthy of more than this short video but let me introduce it here with the hopes that it will help to explain what’s happening in THE world today.
In the Bible, a “lying spirit” refers to a demon or spiritual being that promotes deception, falsehood, and leads people away from the truth. Which, by the way SATAN HAS NO POWER SO this is his most potent weapon. It is mentioned in various biblical passages, such as First Kings 22:19-23 and Second Chronicles 18:18-22
The story in First Kings is about the prophet Micaiah’s vision of a heavenly council where a ““lying spirit”” offered to deceive the wicked king Ahab. The spirit’s purpose was to entice Ahab into making unwise decisions that ultimately led to his downfall. I want you to Notice this “lying spirit”’s work in the highest levels of government and leadership today. I distinctly remember a political figure say a few years ago…”stop believing what your eyes see and what your ears hear.”
A “lying spirit” symbolizes the presence of spiritual or moral deception in the world. It represents the idea that there are forces at work that seek to have power, distort the truth, mislead people, and lead them away from righteousness or rightly relating to God.
Today they’ve given this ““lying spirit”” the sterilized name of, listen to me….. ” conspiracy theories.”
Jesus talked plainly about the devil and his lies when he said, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It is because you can’t even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. So, when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” That’s John 8:42-47
So, how prevalent is a “lying spirit” today? That spirit is very prevalent. The enemy is and has always been a liar and the father of all lies and he is certainly responsible for the influences and factors that have led to the widespread deception and deceit are experiencing today. Scriptures tell us that in the last days deception will increase, and we are able to see with a spiritual eye, the works of “lying spirit”s. Someone recently said they believe we are in a “civil war regarding truth” — and it’s easy to see that misinformation, propaganda, dishonesty, and manipulation are dominant today in politics, media, religion, medicine, business, culture and social media. This spirit has led people to sow discord which is hindering the pursuit of truth and justice.
The Lord warned us in Second Timothy chapter 3:1-5 when he said….
“You must understand this: In the last days there will be violent periods of time. People will be selfish and love money. They will brag, be arrogant, and use abusive language. They will curse their parents, show no gratitude, have no respect for what is holy, and lack normal affection for their families. They will refuse to make peace with anyone. They will be slanderous, lack self-control, be brutal, and have no love for what is good. They will be traitors. They will be reckless and conceited. They will love pleasure rather than God. They will appear to have a godly life, but they will not let its power change them. Stay away from such people.” …. Sound familiar?
But truth and justice will ultimately prevail. According to the Apostle Paul in second Corinthians 13:8….” For we have no power against the truth, but only for the furtherance of the truth.”
How do we recognize a “lying spirit”?
Again, A “lying spirit” cannot receive the truth and makes itself accountable to no one.
So, What is our response?
Don’t allow lies and misinformation to wear you out remember our battle is not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers in spiritual realms and we’ve been given authority — so take authority over that spirit in Jesus’ Name.
Also, I encourage you to remember that the Word also emphasizes the importance of exercising wisdom, discernment and relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God is the ultimate source of truth and being led by the Holy Spirit who provides spiritual discernment we won’t get caught up in deception, falsehood, and misinformation.
As we cultivate our relationship with The Lord and speak His Truth to one another we can develop the discernment to recognize and reject these lies and falsehoods. Learn from these teachings, seek wisdom, and encourage your sisters and brothers in Christ to do the same.
Remember, it’s truth that sets us free and keeps us free.
